Easy Alfredo Sauce Recipe
Craving creamy Alfredo pasta without dairy or nuts? This easy vegan alfredo sauce recipe has you covered.

Made with wholesome, plant-based ingredients and no cashews, it delivers the authentic, cheesy flavor and silky texture you love—perfect for pasta, veggies, and more.
When it comes to traditional Alfredo sauce, the creamy and velvety texture is often achieved through the use of heavy cream. But fear not, my health-conscious foodie friends, because in this vegan alfredo sauce recipe, we’ve got you covered! We’ll show you how to create that same luscious texture and rich taste without any dairy or nuts.
So how do we replace the heavy cream? Silk whipping cream, has sunflower seed instead of nuts and is fatty enough to make a great replacement. You can also use your usual unsweetened plant milk, almond is the least sweet for sauces.
To further enhance the creaminess, we can rely on the power of starch. I used some reserved pasta water, but you can also use a quarter teaspoon of starch. Adding a small amount of cornstarch or arrowroot powder to the sauce will help thicken it, giving it that luxurious texture you’re craving. Simply mix a quarter teaspoon of starch with a little water to create a slurry, then stir it into the sauce and simmer until thickened.
By using these plant-based alternatives to heavy cream, you can still enjoy a rich and creamy vegan alfredo sauce that will satisfy your cravings. And the best part? This recipe doesn’t contain any cashews, making it a great option for those with nut allergies or anyone who wants the most realistic plant-based sauce possible.

Ingredients

- plant based Parmesan cheese
- plant based cream or milk
- plant based butter
- reserved pasta water, or a bit of additional starch
- garlic powder
- onion powder
- dried Italian seasoning, or fresh herbs
- cracked black pepper
- salt
- water or white wine for additional liquid
I used two types of plant based Parmesan cheese here. The sprinkle Parmesan has more cellulose than the shreds and will take additional liquid to make a sauce consistency.
I also used dried seasonings for this sauce, you can definitely use fresh garlic and herbs for the most luxurious sauce.
Instructions
- Melt the plant based butter in a saucepan or skillet on low heat and add the seasonings

- Add the plant based cream, or milk, and the pasta water then bring up to a simmer

- If the cheese doesn’t have enough liquid to melt, or if the sauce is still tight, add a few tablespoons of liquid at a time and stir well until the desired consistency is achieved

- Taste and adjust for seasoning before serving
Serving and Storing Suggestions
Now, let’s talk about storing this delicious sauce. If you find yourself with leftovers (which is unlikely, but hey, it could happen), make sure to transfer the sauce to an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator. It will stay fresh for up to 5 days, allowing you to enjoy this creamy goodness throughout the week. Just be aware that the sauce may thicken slightly when refrigerated, so you can simply thin it out with a splash of non-dairy milk when reheating.
If you want to make a larger batch of the vegan Alfredo sauce and freeze it for later, you’re in luck! This sauce freezes beautifully and will maintain its flavor and texture when thawed. Simply transfer the sauce to a freezer-safe container, leaving some room for expansion, and store it in the freezer for up to 3 months. When you’re ready to enjoy it, thaw the sauce overnight in the refrigerator and reheat it gently on the stovetop, stirring occasionally until warmed through.
